PROS at INFORMS

PROS scientists will be actively engaged in the INFORMS conference, chairing segments and delivering presentations:

  • Darius Walczak, Ph.D., is an INFORMS board member and former chair of the INFORMS Revenue Management and Pricing Section. He will jointly present research with Siddharth P. Singh from the Tepper Business School at Carnegie Mellon University in a presentation titled “Explicitly Incorporating Competition and Customer Choice in Dynamic Pricing.”

  • Wei Wang, Ph.D., will serve as Revenue Management and Pricing Cluster Co-Chair. He will deliver a presentation titled “Dynamic and Static Airline Overbooking for Networks” that evaluates the performance of various airline overbooking strategies. Carriers today apply static approaches to overbooking and cancellation, and Wang will demonstrate the additional revenue gains that dynamic overbooking is designed to bring through network simulation.

  • Ravi Kumar, Ph.D., will serve as session chair for Revenue Management and Pricing in the hotel industry. Speakers from PROS, SAS Institute and Carnegie Mellon University will cover recent advances in the areas of dynamic pricing with competitive effects, capacity sharing and efficient network optimization methods in revenue management.

  • Ang Li, Ph.D., will chair a session on the topic of “Novel Revenue Management Models for Loyalty Programs.” This session will cover three research studies that are motivated by the sheer size of loyalty programs and by the growing availability of customer data.

Li will also present his joint work with Kumar and Walczak on a network dynamic pricing model that enables customers to be dynamically upgraded across aircraft cabin compartments. Titled “A Dynamic Pricing Model with Capacity Sharing for Airline Revenue Management,” they will evaluate several control policies for airline networks and show theoretical results.

  • Evan Davidson, Ph.D., will deliver a presentation titled “Travel Network Optimization Parallelization Techniques Under Dependencies Between Daily Itineraries.” He will present parallelization methodologies comparing airline industry travel that spans one day with bus travel itineraries spanning multiple days, causing these networks to be highly connected. Davidson will explore a heuristic for these highly connected networks by solving multiple separate and overlapping problems during an extended time horizon to find a global, near-optimal solution.

  • Shigeru Tsubakitani, Ph.D., will deliver a presentation titled “Allocation Priority Tiebreakers for Frequent Flyer Seat Allocation Optimization.” He will include simple and effective improvements to airline frequent-flyer optimization that enables carriers to use available capacity and provide seating for frequent flyers in every month of the year. In his presentation, he will demonstrate a more balanced solution that remains optimal and respects business rules and regulations.
